QUESTIONS
I'm not entirely sure what I want for my design. May I speak about it with you?
Yes! Part of my job in design is to help you figure out the theme and direction of your character.
Be prepared for me to ask a lot of questions regarding the character lore and backstory, but don't feel pressured to have everything on hand. If it takes you a bit to figure out and get back to me, that's no issue at all.
Do you take Vtuber model commissions?
I do, however I don't have any proper samples as of yet. I've done my own bust up model as well as am familiar with the cutting process from doing visual novels, but I would need some guidance from your rigger for full models.
What is the price range for a Vtuber model?
Price for the first 1-2 models will start at $1000 base [Simple t-shirt and jeans, for example] and scale up with complexity. At the moment the price includes the design/redesign fee, as I do not take premade designs.
What is the price range for half body or bust models?
Feel free to email me and we can discuss!
What is the best way to request a design?
Honestly, the contact form can be fairly limiting, so I usually suggest putting all your relevant info, necessary details, references, and links into a google doc to be submitted with the form. It helps cut down on potential misunderstandings and will let me refer to what's most important at a glance!
I also really appreciate pinterest moodboards!
Do you take payment plans?
For projects over $1000, I'm able to take two split payments. For amounts greater than $1500, we can discuss!
Work will start after last payment has been made, and prior payments are non-refundable even if you decide not to complete the plan.
Since you're Canadian, do you take CAD?
All prices are listed in USD, but I'm able to take CAD based on the exchange rate on day of payment through e-transfer at any major Canadian bank. For this, payment plans are not available.
I'd like something for a reference sheet that's not currently open. Can we discuss?
Yes! For character designs that are meant to be a full sheet, I'm happy to discuss add-on pricing for full illustrations, expressions, weapons, items, etc. even if those design slots are closed on the main site. Feel free to ask!
What is the difference between sketch design and rendered design?
The major difference besides finish level is that sketch designs do not have intricate detailing. Ornaments, patterns, etc. are only roughed in with vague shapes, whereas they would be properly designed when rendered. It's also more difficult to tell material differences between sketched and rendered designs.
I usually recommend full render for designs that have heavy ornaments, such as baroque or gothic themes, and sketch for designs that rely more on shapes than detail (ex. active wear, some tech wear).
Do you do any graphic design?
For Vtubers I don't offer the full gamut but I do offer model reveal graphics and other small things that would compliment the character sheet. Existing/previous customers are free to ask at any time.
I'm unsure what I want in terms of assets. Do you have a solution?
Mainly in regards to character sheets, I do leave the option for previous clients to return for refinement and/or add-ons to their references. Back sketches, for example, can be rendered for an additional fee, or expressions can be added on etc.
Just bear in mind that for full sheet designs, the spacing is rather exact so often times I would recommend a supplement or side sheet if there's any big additional props and expressions.

ABOUT
Hello! My name is Sai and I'm a Chinese-Canadian artist who likes to call herself a roleplayer first and an artist second. I hold a B.A. in psychology, as well as having private art training in LA and formal training at ACCD's concept design program.
ON DESIGN
Originally I started drawing so that I could better portray my own characters as I saw them in my head, but over time I've come to find that I really enjoy designing for other people as well. Being a collaborative writer means I put a huge amount of emphasis on storytelling and designs that reflect narrative, and it's my belief that a design's uniqueness doesn't entirely hinge on its genre or combination of visual traits, but because it reflects that one character's associated background and story experience. It's easy to create say, a witch design, but is it memorable? Does it have any little callouts to the witch's hobbies and unique preferences for fans to find?
Character personalities are wide and varied because they reflect the creator's own experiences, affinities, and understanding of the world. As such, I want to help bring these multitude of unique perceptions and stories to life. That's why most clients can attest to the fact that I ask a lot about things that seemingly have nothing to do with the design itself.
What does your character like to do on their free time? What kind of magic do they wield? What kind of space do they live in? Who are they close to? What's their favourite food?
It may seem nonsensical, but I don't think my strength comes from being unique in shape language or colours or style. Those are tools to be honed over an artist's lifetime, but from my decade+ of storytelling and character creation experience I think I'm in a good position to help with a character design that presents with more depth than just a pretty face!
